ABOUT MARNIE NOIR
Marnie Noir is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist and painter from Wuppertal, Germany. Her artistic practice explores perception, darkness, creativity, and human experience. Her fascination with black and white began long before she understood it as art. One winter morning, on her way to kindergarten, she discovered small black salt crystals on the white snow. While others passed them by without a second glance, she was captivated by their beauty, their structures, reflections, surfaces, and the countless nuances of black. For her, they held special significance. She could gaze at them for hours. She painted her colorful pictures with black crayons and played in the dark, fascinated by the infinite world of light, shadow, and perception.
Marnie experienced early on how people can perceive the same reality and yet see something completely different. What was obvious and meaningful to her often remained invisible to others. Black clothing, which she found comforting and natural, was interpreted by others as dark or threatening. These experiences shaped her lifelong fascination with the question of why we see what we see and why people perceive the same world differently.
She initially studied fashion design and later moved into the creative industries, where she worked at the intersection of design, technology, and digital environments. Close collaboration with developers and her work with digital art, CGI, and virtual reality broadened her perspective on the relationship between technology, visual information, and human perception.
At the same time, her professional life increasingly led to a distance between her and her own creative expression. Her artistic practice stalled. Only the isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the outside world suddenly became quieter and she was alone with herself, led her back to art. The darkness, which had become the new normal, once again became a reminder of a space for reconnection. She began to paint again and within a short time developed an independent artistic practice.
Since 2021, Marnie Noir has worked as a freelance, multidisciplinary artist. Her work encompasses monochrome art, textiles, digital illustrations, sculptures, and immersive art, and continuously evolves beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines. Alongside her artistic practice, she completed training as an art and creativity therapist, deepening her exploration of creativity as a form of expression, reflection, and personal transformation.
In 2023, she published the limited-edition art book Marnie Noir: Between Art and Society with Snap Collective. Her work has been presented in exhibitions, live painting formats, and artistic collaborations in Wuppertal and beyond.
Today, Marnie Noir continues to develop her artistic practice from Wuppertal. The Art of Transformation forms the conceptual framework of her ongoing exploration of perception, darkness, creativity, individuality, and human experience.
